Glass polished edges refer to a type of finish that is applied to the edge of the glass surface which creates a smooth, even, and shiny surface. The process of polishing the edge of the glass is typically done to improve the appearance and safety of the glass, as well as prevent the glass from chipping or breaking. Also, polishing is needed for our UV bonding to be sure there is a seamless bond between the glass, so this is necessary for our glass display cabinets for model railway and train storage.

We offer three different foot finishes/installation options for your glass display cabinet. Different foot choices will suit different situations, so we leave this up to you.

The first option for your glass display cabinet is an aluminium channel. This channel is drilled into the top of your worktop and then the glass display cabinet slots into the channel. This option allows your glass display cabinet the ability to be removed for cleaning and combines it with the security of a permanent fixture.

The second option for your glass display cabinet is a discrete rubber strip foot. This rubber strip is affixed to the bottom of your glass display cabinet and causes friction between the counter and the work surface. This friction, combined with the glass display cabinets' weight, stops the unit from being accidentally knocked or jogged but allows the unit to be repositioned at will.

The third option for your glass display cabinet shield is to silicone fix the unit to the worktop. This process provides the security of the aluminium channel however does not allow the glass display cabinet to be removed. Please note, Futureglass will not as standard, carry out the installation work. If you require us to install the glass display cabinet, then please contact us to see if this will be possible. An installation fee will be charged.

Once you have selected the installation method of your glass display cabinet, we then ask you to specify the glass thickness you require. For most applications, 10mm glass will be suitable however if the damage is a concern, we do offer thicker glass.

This section can at times be a little daunting as a lot of people don’t know the difference between the glass types. Allow us to explain, so you can choose the best option for your glass display cabinet shield.

All our glass is toughened so breakages are unlikely to occur. The difference between glass types is largely cosmetic. Standard toughened glass has a faint green tint, this is largely noticeable unless you attempt to colour the glass. In this case, the green tint will slightly alter the colour you apply to the glass. If colour is a concern for you and you feel the accuracy of colour is important for your glass display cabinet, then we would recommend you choose Low iron glass which is specially formulated to remove the green tint and allows for a truer application of colour.

Full-depth shelves are the glass thickness of the front panel minus 35mm shallower than the cabinet's overall depth to allow for sliding doors to be retrospectively fitted in the future.

We find that customers will often wish to include a shelf in their glass display cabinets. We offer the ability to decide the number of shelves you require and the depth of these shelves, choosing from half-depth to full depth. By default, we will divide the sections of your glass display cabinet equally. If you would like to specify custom shelf spacing for your sneeze shield, then please indicate this to us using the special instructions section.

Doors can make a great confidence boost to customers choosing the most secure way of displaying their collections. They can lift out of the cabinet easily for cleaning or removal of larger items inside of the cabinet. Instructions for this are in the downloads section towards the bottom of this product page. As the door are sliding along the rollers in the bottom channel, they must conform to a width-to-height ratio of 1 to 1.5, so a 1m wide cabinet will have an approx. 500mm wide door so can only be 750mm tall approximately.
